An hour of Polish Music

In our program on Sunday, October 6th, music by Aleksandra Gryka (Warsaw, 1977), an interesting composer working in Poland today. She burst onto the scene in 2000 by winning the First Prize at the EuroArtMeeting Composer Competition in Wroclaw for a composition for symphony orchestra and in 2006 the Culture Award of Polish Television. Aleksandra started composition studies in 1998 at the Academy of Music in Cracow under the guidance of Krystyna Nazar and computer composition studies with Magdalena Długosz. Also music by Maria Symanovksa (on a recent release of Ballades & Romances with Elisabeth Zapolska, mezzo-soprano and pianist Bart van Oort) and Krystyna Nazar's Concerto for percussion and orchestra.
