As a composer Aliona Yurtsevich is developing her own unique style, exploring the traditional abilities of acoustic instruments with the emphasis on theatrical aspect of performance on stage, live electronics, sound spatialization and sound itself. Her work leans towards the experimental multidisciplinary sound-theater exploring musicality of the visual and the visuality of the musical performance.

We believe it is important to expose existing biases that impede the richness of our diversity. By openly discussing how the current environment validifies our artistic works by the identification of our gender, we hope to challenge the existing conditions.

Kate Moore (1979) is een van de boeiendste componisten van haar generatie. Zij groeide op in Australië en kwam naar Den Haag om te studeren bij Louis Andriessen, die haar muziek ‘glashelder noemt’. Twaalf jaar geleden behaalde zij haar masterdiploma en sindsdien krijgt zij haar werk op de lessenaars van toonaangevende ensembles. Wij spelen drie grote ensemblestukken.
Kate Moore is gefascineerd door de cyclische processen in de natuur en in het universum en door de complexe manier waarop ze op elkaar inwerken, soms met desastreuze gevolgen. Kate Moore verklankt die natuurprocessen met motieven die veelvuldig worden herhaald en kunnen uitgroeien tot enorme klankerupties.

Stap verder is a commissioned piece for the David Kweksilber Big Band, whose members are equally at home making mind-blowing improvisations and performing cutting-edge contemporary notated music.
The African hocket technique of 'one player, one note' was the inspiration and structural basis for Stap verder. In the ensemble music of many African communities each instrument produces only one tone. Each musician is responsible for voicing that tone, and only that tone, using the unique sound and character of his or her instrument. This reflects how the role of the individual in these societies is perceived. The Ngumi proverb 'Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu' means that an individual "exists" only through contact with other persons in the community. Similarly, in this type of music (just as in Stap verder) a melody becomes discernable only when each player grows aware of the contribution of every other player. However simple, each person's musical gesture is significant.
Emma Lazarus' immortal text (engraved on the Statue of Liberty in NY, and used in this work) - "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses..." - also mirrors the belief that a society cannot successfully exist without recognizing the voice of even the smallest individual.
