Saskia Rao-de Haas, a world-renowned cellist, composer, cultural entrepreneur, and educationalist from the Netherlands, has made a significant impact on the world of music. Although initially trained as a Western cellist, her life took a different direction when she discovered Indian music in 1993. She has been appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau by the Dutch ambassador to India, Marisa Gerards. This award recognises her outstanding contribution to music, music education and the strengthening of cultural ties between India and the Netherlands.
