Women Composers at the Proms

22 women composers are championed by the Proms this summer as the festival reflects on the moment 100 years ago when some women got the vote. Anna Meredith’s work Five Telegrams opened the BBC Proms 2018 and Roxanna Panufnik's Songs of Darkness, Dreams of Light was commissioned for the Last Night on September 8, 2018. Live broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC 2.

Monique Krüs - premiere in Leeuwarden

In het kader van Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018 schreef Monique Krüs voor Opera Spanga een nieuw werk: Gloria ad Iside, een van de vier nieuwe triomfmarsen, die voorafgaand aan de voorstellingen van Aida door plaatselijke koren worden uitgevoerd op het operaterrein in Spanga o.l.v. de componiste. Krüs gebruikte dezelfde tekst als Verdi, maar gaf het stuk een andere titel: Gloria ad Iside.

The five compositions on this album are inspired by the lives and works of five women from history. Carlotta Ferrari (Italy, 1975) has composed numerous pieces inspired by historical figures as well as pieces inspired by literature and works of art. Several of these directions are brought together in the five compositions on this album, which celebrate three religious figures, an artist, and a writer. In Ferrari’s distinctive modal style, she creates expressive musical portraits of these women.

Tentoonstelling Ans Wortel

De schilderijen van Ans Wortel (1929-1996) werden in de jaren 1970 bejubeld en aangekocht door grote musea. Haar werk is doordrenkt van diep-vrouwelijke thema’s. Wortel werd een bekende Nederlander die met haar onaangepaste levensstijl tot ieders verbeelding sprak. Oók in het dorp Bergen waar zij 20 jaar woonde in de villa – nu museum - Kranenburgh.
