Prèmieres - Annelies Van Parys

The premiere of Dagboek van een verdwenene (The Diary of One Who Disappeared) will take place on 11 March, during the Klara Festival in Brussels. The staging was created by Ivo van Hove and is based on Leos Janáček's song cycle of the same name, about the passionate love affair between a village boy named Janik and a gypsy girl, Zefka. Annelies Van Parys composed a companion piece to go along with Janáček's rustic, poetic songs, in which she gives Zefka her own voice.
11 and 12 March 2017 - KaaiTheater, Brussels
12 & 13 May 2017- Operadagen, Rotterdam

More of Van Parys' new works will be heard during the Opera Forward Festival. Her And Thou Must Suffer offers a penetrating prelude and epilogue to Bach's St John Passion. Director Pierre Audi has made a sober staging for this oratorio, based on images by the artist Wim Delvoye. This is a production dealing with truth, suffering, religion and compassion in a time of growing cultural unrest.
28 and 29 March 2017 - Muziekgebouw an het IJ, Amsterdam
